Mark Cazalet studied at Chelsea and Falmouth College of Art before receiving two postgraduate scholarships from the French Government to attend L'École des Beaux-Arts in Paris (Christian Boltanski's Atelier) and then at MS University in Baroda, West India, through the Association of Commonwealth Universities, under Professor Gulam Mohammed Sheikh.
Cazalet's artistic practice focuses on drawing, painting, and printmaking, often centred around themes of landscape. His work is deeply influenced by the unique qualities of light, colour, and atmosphere, with many pieces created during dawn, dusk, and nighttime.
In the spring of 2012 and 2013, he was an artist-in-residence at The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Connecticut. He has produced large-scale glass and painted works for various ecclesiastical settings, including Worcester, Manchester, and Chelmsford Cathedrals. His collaborations with fabricators involve a diverse range of materials, including mosaic, mural work, stained glass, etched and engraved glass, textiles, and limited-edition books that utilise lino and woodcut techniques. As a Senior Fellow at the Royal Drawing School, he plays a significant role in the contemporary arts scene, contributing to its richness and complexity.
